My mate sold his oculus dk2 and will soon have the vive.
I've had a go of the dk2 and it made me feel a bit ill, lack of motion sickness.
other than that it was pretty cool, would like it for car racing games where the brain expects you to be sitting anyway.

yeah I've heard that its better when used for sitting games. Be good for me with the flying Sims etc. Haven't seen one in the flesh yet. Would love too before I pulled the trigger on one.

Would be amazing in space sims like Elite:dangerous and racing games. Might check it out when it's more fleshed out and I can afford to buy it and a pc capable of using it.

I've had a go at the vive vr headset, it was a cool addition being part of the environment in the 'play area' and with the controllers.

it also felt more comfy than the oculus dk2 despite being heavier, I'm not sure if the design changed from the oculus dk2 to the rift?

didn't get seasick, but I think that had more to do on the selection of games lack of graphical content allowing a higher frame rate.

Here's my friends opinion on me using it for racing games, he's had the oculus and now has the vive.

the oculus rift may your best choice for driving games as the narrower vertical FOV would not be required as such. It has been reported to have a slightly better optics and may allow better definition further to the horizon...its also a lighter headset that does not include motion controls which you wouldn't require for racing and it's about $200 US cheaper..so for you circumstance the rift would be better...
But it is owned by Facebook and is a closed medium.. Valve on the otherhand are open and have a much better rep in most people's eyes...
my two cents are that to me more FOV is more important than slightly sharper optic output. I don't like Facebook and their closed stance on software...and the vive having motion controls straight out of the box for full room VR is more the complete package atm..

It's basically another VHS vs BETA wars.
software developers are not going to want to support different API's so someone will come out the winner, most likely Steam and what ever product support it.
For example, Assetto Corsa had developed for the dk2 but the API for the rift has changed and their software no longer works, due to popular demand they are now ditching (immediate) support for the rift in favour for the vive vr.

Future VR forecast:
Resolution and frame rates will get higher, headsets may get lighter or possibly wireless (WiFi will not be fast enough) and hand controllers (motion controllers) will be replaced by gesture recognition (perceptual user interface).

(And hopefully a shared API, like direct X)
